Perhaps I am the odd one out...but I would suggest this: If you both are liking the name so much (they are very similar) and occasionally arguing about it- I suggest going with a whole other name. We (DH & I) got into name wars...Lola, Lula, so the easiest thing was to subtract them both...and start over. It will help the last few weeks fly by..and lots of names will sound great with Julian. Keep us posted.

I prefer Brennan myself. I have thought of that as an option myself. I think sometimes giving in to some things when a guy actually cares about a name is cool especially if its sports related. Seems you kind of like the idea in some ways because of the gift idea. Its hard to pick names for our kids. I know many people have a hard time with my boys' names since I spelled them different. Damayin and Jarrid. Noone gets them right. Damayin is usually spelled Damien. I like unusual as you see mine name is also. Good luck. You are right though cause it is hard to decide!!
Damayin 12-3-93
Jarrid 10-12-98
Hayvann 11-22-09
Kerstyn 4-2-11
Kinzy 4-2-11

Brendan. That's my vote. There is a cartoon called Home Movies that I am fond of and the main character is a kid named Brendan Small. I thought more than once that I'd love a kid like him and have considered the name for that very reason :)

Your Father's day idea is so sweet though, it ALMOST swayed my vote. All the best!
